The Colorado Rockies and Seattle Mariners open a quick two-game set at the T-Mobile Park on Monday night.
Colorado is currently 30-43 on the season and they are 4th place in the NL West Division, a far 16.5 games behind the leader San Francisco Giants. Meanwhile, Seattle is 38-36 on the season and is third in the AL West, seven games behind the division-leading Houston Astros.
This will be the first of four meetings between these two teams this season. After this two-game series in Seattle, they will meet again in another two-game set at Coors Field. The Mariners won the last meeting between these two teams 5-3 on August 9, 2020.
The Rockies head to his series after losing their last two games in the Milwaukee series. Prior to that, they won five straight games including a three-game sweep of the San Diego Padres.
In their last game, Colorado erased a six-run deficit with 6 runs in the bottom of the 6th, only to concede a run at the top of the ninth to lose 7-6 to the Milwaukee Brewers. Colorado hit four home runs in the game, including the 9th homer for C.J. Cron who went 3-4 with one run and two RBI.
Lefty Kyle Freeland will open on top of the hill for the Rockies. Freeland is 0-2 in five starts with an ERA of 9.58. He has allowed nine home runs in 12.2 innings pitched this month. The left-handed starter has conceded a total of 18 earned runs and 27 hits in only three starts this month.
Ryan McMahon leads Colorado with 6 home runs and 44 RBI on the season. Cron has 28 homers and 28 RBI while batting at .271. The Rockies will be without Matt Adams and Chris Owings.
The Seattle Mariners are on a roll right now with seven wins in their last eight assignments, including a current four-game winning streak. The Mariners are seven games behind the Houston Astros for the lead in the AL West.
Seattle is coming off a game where Shed Long delivered a walk-off grand slam in the 10th inning to give the Mariners a 6-2 win over Tampa Bay. Ty France and Luis Torrens also went deep for Seattle who swept the Rays 4-0.
Chris Flexen will start for Seattle in Game 1 of this series. Flexen looked impressive in his last outing, allowing zero runs on four hits in eight innings pitched against the Minnesota Twins. He has been inconsistent as of late, giving up five runs in six innings last June 2, 8 runs in 1.2 innings on May 21 but holding two other opponents scoreless in his last four starts.
Kyle Seager leads Seattle with 42 RBI and three home runs but is hitting just .217. Mitch Hangiger paces the team with 16 home runs and 41 RBI. Seattle will be without Evan White, Kyle Lewis, and Sam Haggerty. Ty France has been listed as questionable for this contest.
Colorado is 5-2 in their last seven games played.
