The Philadelphia 76ers visit the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday night in a road game where they won’t have to travel.
Philly played the Lakers two days ago and they stayed in town, and rested for one day, before taking on the Clippers. The Sixers have won back-to-back road games against the Jazz and Lakers and have won seven out of their last 9 games played overall to climb to 27-16 SU on the season.
Meanwhile, the Clippers are on the opposite pole as they have dropped seven out of their last 9 games played. L.A. lost six consecutive games before going 2-1 SU in their last 3 games played, winning their last outing against the Houston Rockets. The Clippers have dropped to 23-22 SU on the campaign with their recent struggles.
After a one-point win over the Utah Jazz, the Sixers struggled once again to put away the L.A. Lakers in their last game. Philly needed Joel Embiid to do the heavy lifting to escape an upset-minded Lakers team. Embiid not only put up 35 points and grabbed 11 boards in the contest, but he also hit the game-winning basket with 45 ticks left and foiled the Lakers’ final play with his ‘defense’.
Although they failed to cover the 5.5-point betting spread, it was still one in the winning column for the Sixers who have now climbed to 11 games over the break-even mark. Philadelphia is now 4th in the Eastern Conference team standings and is just 5 games behind the leaders Boston Celtics.
The Clippers blew out the Houston Rockets 121-100 in their last game. L.A. allowed Houston to score only 10 points in the 4th quarter after giving up 63 in the first half. The win was only their second in their last 9 games played. Terence Mann scored a career-high 31 points to lead the Clippers who were without Paul George and Marcus Morris Sr. Kawhi Leonard also added 30 points as he continues to find his way back to form.
Luke Kennard and John Wall also missed the game due to injuries. Wall suffered an abdominal injury while dunking in their loss to the Nuggets last Friday. Wall and Kennard are expected to miss this game but George is listed as questionable he was at the team practice on Monday which means he could be suiting up against the Sixers.
The Sixers are 8-3 SU in their last 11 games played against the Clippers. Philadelphia and L.A. have split their last four meetings at the Crypto.com Arena.
Philadelphia 76ers SU Trends:
Los Angeles Clippers SU trends:
The Sixers are 3-0 SU on the road to start 2023 and after beating the Lakers at Crypto.com Arena, they stayed in town, rested one day, and will not travel for their next away game against the Clippers in a game where head coach Doc Rivers faces his former team.
Joel Embiid played his fourth straight game after missing several outings with a foot issue. Against the Lakers, Embiid scored the game-winning basket and then disrupted the Lakers’ final play to seal the win. He finished with 35 points and 11 rebounds in 36 minutes. Because he played in back-to-back games, getting one day’s rest will be a big boost in this game.
James Harden added 24 for the Sixers, one game after putting up 31 against the Jazz, including 18 in the final period. Tyrese Maxey came off the bench to score 16 points as the Sixers moved to 11 games above the .500 mark. It was Maxey’s third game off the bench, with the first two being his initial games after returning from a broken foot.
The Clippers earned a much-needed win against the Rockets the last time out. It was only LA’s second win in their last 9 games played. Paul George missed his fifth consecutive game but Terence Mann stepped up big time with 31 points to help the Clippers win.
Kawhi Leonard continued his strong play after missing 24 games while recovering from knee surgery. Leonard added 30 points last Sunday for LA Leonard’s injury is just one of the many misses that have hurt Tyronn Lue’s rotation this year, causing the Clippers to struggle early on.
The battle of the coaches will also be interesting. Lue is in his third season as Clippers head coach but before him, it was Rivers who steered the team for seven seasons.
Philadelphia has had the better season. But the Clippers are slowly getting healthy. With Leonard slowly regaining his form, the Clippers should be able to match Philadelphia’s offensive prowess. With better defense, LA should be able to win this game.
Prediction: LA Clippers
The 76ers are 11-3 ATS in their last 14 games played against the Clippers. Philadelphia is also 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games in Los Angeles.
Philadelphia 76ers ATS trends:
Los Angeles Clippers ATS trends:
The Clippers will be without John Wall here but both Kawhi Leonard and Paul George are expected to suit up on Tuesday night. Even if George doesn’t play, Kawhi Leonard is slowly getting his old form back as he has scored 24 or more points in six out of his last seven games played.
LA has big men that can defend Embiid and the Clippers’ defense is good enough to hold this Sixers team down. Philly is coming off lackluster wins against the Jazz and Lakers and they remained in LA after narrowly beating the Lakers. This team is likely road-weary right now and the Clippers should be able to take advantage.
Give me the Clippers to win and cover the spread.
The total has gone over in four out of the last six games played between these two teams. The over is also 5-3 in their last 8 games played in Los Angeles.
Philadelphia 76ers over/under trends:
Los Angeles Clippers over/under trends:
Both teams rank in the Top 10 in defense this season. Although the Philadelphia defense has struggled as of late, the Clippers are not a high-scoring team this season, scoring over 120 points just three times in their last nine outings.
The Clippers have conceded 105 or fewer points five times in their last 7 games played on their home court and the total has gone under in all but two of their last 13 games played at the Crypto.com Arena. Both teams also play at a slow pace, with each averaging below 98.0 possessions per 48 minutes so I don’t expect a high-scoring affair here.
I like these teams to hit the under.
Prediction: Under 226
