The kick off of the NFL regular season is just a week away, and a bundle of rookies fresh out of college are prepared to make their debut as a professional. With this being the case, the bets are out in full force from the sportsbooks for the 2019 campaign.
One set of prop bets that BetOnline has released are for the 2019 NFL rookie class, and that’s what we’re going to go over in this piece.
For rookie quarterbacks to start the first week of the season, the OVER/UNDER is currently set at 1.5, and you can expect this bet to get a lot of play as a result — it already has. That’s because there were a total of 11 quarterbacks selected in the 2019 NFL Draft, and that includes three (Kyler Murray, Daniel Jones, and Dwayne Haskins) that were selected in the first round.
Out of the entire group, the most surprising pick was without a doubt, Daniel Jones. With Eli Manning getting up there in age at now 38 years old, New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman would send shockwaves across the league taking Jones with a high No. 6 pick. Needless to say, most would have criticism for the Giants, mainly because they could have grabbed Jones later on in the draft at 17th.
As far as the NFL betting sites are concerned, they’re seeing Daniel Jones getting some playing time this season having his OVER/UNDER for starts at 4.5. If I were you, however, I would certainly take the UNDER in this prop bet, and that’s because Gettleman has already made it clear that they don’t want to rush Jones into the starting position and want him to learn under Manning for a bit. Seems like a great bet to take the UNDER in.
Having the No.1 pick in the NFL Draft, it was a pretty easy decision for the Arizona Cardinals to take Kyler Murray, and unlike with Daniel Jones, there was zero surprise with this selection. Murray should fit right into head coach Kliff Kingsbury’s air raid offense. But what this pick would lead to would be the creation of a prop bet involving another quarterback: Josh Rosen.
In the 2018 NFL Draft, Rosen would be taken by the Arizona Cardinals with the No. 10 pick. A year later in the 2019 draft, he was then traded to the Miami Dolphins, and that’s because Arizona has no faith in Rosen at this point. In Miami, if he can eventually steal the job away from Ryan Fitzpatrick, he’ll have his chance to prove his critics wrong, but those critics exist for a reason after a dismal rookie season. In a prop bet involving Kyler Murray and Josh Rosen, you can place a wager on who will have more starts in 2019. The odds-makers have Murray as the favorite at -300 odds, and Rosen placed as the underdog with +200. It just shows you what kind of cool prop bets you can make throughout the NFL season.
Let’s go over the full list of odds for 2019 NFL rookie prop bets, as well as my betting prediction for each one.
