The Los Angeles Clippers hope to get back on track as they travel to the Lone Star state to take on the San Antonio Spurs at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.
The Clippers were off to a fast start to the 2018-19 season but they have since regressed. The Clippers have lost four out of their last six games and they are coming off a 24 point beating at the hands of the Toronto Raptors 99-123 in their last game played. Despite their recent struggles, the Clippers are still 17-10 on the season and are 5th in the Western Conference Standings.
Los Angeles is 5th in the league in team scoring at 115.3 points per game but that could suffer for a couple of weeks with third leading scorer Lou Williams injured. The Clippers are 11th in rebounding at 46.2 boards per contest and they are 24th in assists with 22.4 dimes per outing. The Clippers allow 113.2 points per game which is 24th overall.
After consecutive double digit road losses to the Utah Jazz and the Los Angeles Lakers, the San Antonio Spurs have bounced back nicely and are starting to win again. The Spurs have won three games in a row, all at home to move back to .500 on the season. San Antonio is still in 10th place in the West right now but with just 3.5 games separating #1 and #8 right now, the Spurs are still in the thick of the fight.
Despite 24.1 points and 6.2 assists per game from DeMar DeRozan, San Antonio ranks only 14th in team scoring (110.3 points per game) and 15th in assists (24.0 assists per game). They Spurs are also below the middle line in rebounding at 18th with their 44.4 boards per game and and an even lower 22nd in points allowed at 112.4 per game.
The Clippers and Spurs have played a total of 167 regular season games. San Antonio leads the all-time head to head series at 126-41. Los Angeles though has won five out of their last eight meetings including the last two. These teams have already met once this season last November 15th at Staples Center with the Clippers winning by the score of 116-111.
The Clippers are 2-4 SU in their last six games played and Los Angeles is 8-7 SU in fifteen road games played this season. The Spurs are 4-2 SU in their last six games played and San Antonio is 10-4 SU in 14 home games played so far. Head to head, the Clippers are 6-4 SU in their last 10 games against the Spurs.
The Clippers are in a funk right now after a strong start and have won just once in their last four games. The Spurs are playing better as of late, winning three in a row heading to this contest. The Clippers have been without forward Luc Mbah Moute since late October and now they have lost Lou Williams to a hamstring injury. Williams missed their last game against Toronto and he is expected to be out for two weeks which should be a big blow to the Clippers since Sweet Lou is their third leading scorer and the Clippers rely on their scoring (5th in the league) to compensate for their defense which ranks only 24th in the league. We’re picking the San Antonio Spurs to beat the Los Angeles Clippers on 12/13/18.
Los Angeles is 15-12 ATS in 15 games played this season. The Clippers are 7-8 ATS in 15 road games played so far. San Antonio is an even 14-14 ATS in 28 games played this season. The Spurs are 9-5 ATS in 14 home games played so far. Head to head, the Spurs are 3-1 SU in their last four meetings against the Clippers.
San Antonio has been solid at home against the better teams in the league .The Spurs are 8-1 ATS in their last nine home games against teams with a winning road record. San Antonio is also 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games against Pacific Division rivals. On the other hand, the Clippers are 0-4 ATS in their last four games overall. Losing Lou Williams isn’t going to make it better. Prediction: Spurs -2
The over is 16-10-1 in 27 games played by the Clippers this season. The total has gone over in nine out of the 15 road games played by Los Angeles. The over is also 17-10-1 in the 28 games played by the Spurs this year. The total has gone over in 8 out of the 14 home games played by San Antonio. Head to head, the over is 6-4 in the last 10 meetings between these teams. The over has also hit in their last three games against each other.
The over is 4-0 in their last four meetings and the Spurs have scored at least 110 points in each of their last four games played. But the Clippers are losing big time points without Lou Williams. They scored only 99 points in their first game without him. Even with Lou around, the Clippers failed to top the century mark in their recent losses to the Grizzlies and Heat. So while these two teams are over machines, I think this one’s going to fall short. Prediction: Under 223
