The Brooklyn Nets look for a much-needed win against the Charlotte Hornets at the Hive on Tuesday night.
Brooklyn is current 32-33 SU on the season and they are in 9th place in the Eastern Conference team standings although they have a similar record as Charlotte. The Nets are just 3-7 SU in their last 10 games played and head to this game with four straight losses and six defeats in their last seven overall. A win here pushes the Nets one game ahead of the Hornets for the 8th spot in the conference, which is important because if they finish 8th, they will need just one win to second a playoff spot.
The Hornets have overtaken the Nets in the East standings with back-to-back wins. Like Brooklyn, Charlotte looks to take solo 8th spot and an easier play-in tournament schedule. The Hornets are 4-6 SU in their last 10 games played but have won their last two assignments against the Cavaliers and Spurs. Charlotte is looking to end a five-year playoff drought and they look to take advantage of the struggling Nets team on Tuesday night at their home court.
Kevin Durant waxed hot with 37 points 12-21 shooting including 4-9 from deep but the Nets conceded 54 points to Jayson Tatum as the Boston Celtics beat them 126-120 on Sunday. Kyrie Irving added 19 but shot just 8-18 from the floor. Meanwhile, Bruce Brown had another impressive showing with 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists for the Nets who dropped their fourth consecutive game.
The Nets rank 12th in the league in scoring at 110.8 points per game this season. They are 18th in rebounding at 44.3 boards grabbed per contest and are 11th in passing at 24.7 assists per game. Brooklyn is 20th in scoring defense at 111.8 points per game allowed and is 24th in adjusted defensive rating.
Charlotte defeated San Antonio 123-117 on Saturday night to pick up their second straight win and move to the 8th spot with the same record as the Brooklyn Nets. Terry Rozier shot 6-8 from deep and finished with 31 points to lead the Hornets to victory. LaMelo Ball added 24 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists for Charlotte while Montrezl Harrell scored 15 points and grabbed 6 rebounds off the Hornets’ bench. Meanwhile, Cody Martin and Kelly Oubre each contributed 12 points.
The Hornets are the top-scoring team in the NBA this season at 114.3 points per game this season. Charlotte is 11th in passing at 45.2 rebounds per game and is 2nd in passing at 27.3 assists per contest. They are third from the bottom when it comes to scoring defense as Charlotte concedes 114.6 points per contest.
Brooklyn is 1-6 SU in their last seven games played. The Nets are 19-15 SU in 33 road games played this season but just 1-6 SU in their last seven games against the Eastern Conference. Charlotte is 4-11 SU in their last 15 games played. The Hornets are 2-8 SU in their last 10 games played at home, and 3-8 SU in their last 11 games against the Eastern Conference.
Head to head, Brooklyn Nets are 6-4 SU in their last 10 games played against the Charlotte Hornets.
The Nets have fallen all the way to the 9th spot and could’ve been down to the 10th spot had the Hawks beaten the Pistons on Monday night. Still, the Nets are a dangerous team and in fact, they still have the third-best odds to win the 2022 NBA championship. With Kevin Durant healthy again, the Nets have looked more confident and although KD’s return hasn’t translated to wins yet, it’s going to come sooner or later. My pick is that they do so in this game against an equally-struggling Charlotte squad.
The Hornets are just 4-6 SU in their last 10 games played. Charlotte has won back-to-back games but is 3-5 SU over their last eight outings. The Nets are worse at 3-7 SU in their last 10 games played but with Kevin Durant back, the Nets have looked more confident in themselves.
Prediction: Brooklyn Nets
The Nets are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games played. Brooklyn is 4-10-1 ATS in their last 15 games when allowing more than 100 points in their previous game, 16-33-2 ATS in their last 51 games when their opponent allows more than 100 points in their previous game, 6-20 ATS in their last 26 games as betting favorites, 2-7-2 ATS in their last 11 games after an ATS loss, 1-4 ATS in their last five Tuesday games, and 1-5 ATS in their last six games when scoring 100 or more points in their previous game.
The Hornets are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games against an opponent from the Atlantic Division. Charlotte is 7-0 ATS in their last seven games played in March, 9-1-1 ATS in their last 11 games when playing on 2 days rest, 2-5-2 ATS in their last nine games as betting underdogs, 1-4-1 ATS in their last six games as home underdogs, 2-9-1 ATS in their last 12 games at home, 1-5 ATS in their last six games after an ATS win, 1-5 ATS in their last six games after a straight up win, and 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven Tuesday games.
You have to think that the Nets will be out for blood here. Brooklyn has been struggling over their last 20 games and they are in danger of falling to the 10 spot or even out of a Play-in Tournament position. With KD healthy and Irving allowed to play, the Nets have the potential to put up a ton of points here.
Brooklyn, however, is the worst ATS team in the NBA this season but at least they are better when playing on the road than at home. I will not blame you if you won’t pick the Nets but I think this team is due to pick up wins with KD back. With their backs against the wall, the Nets show up here and cover the spread against the Hornets.
Prediction: Nets -3.5
The total has gone over in nine out of the last 13 games played by the Nets. The over is 6-1 when Brooklyn’s opponent allows 100 or more points in their previous game, 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven games after an ATS win, 5-1 in their last six road games, 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 games when playing on one day rest, 3-1-1 in their last five road games against an opponent with a winning home record, and 8-3-1 in their last 12 games after allowing 100 or more points in their previous game.
The total has gone under in 10 out of the last 15 games played by the Hornets. The under is 4-0 in their last four games when allowing 100 or more points in their previous game, 7-1 in their last eight games as underdogs, 4-1 in their last five games against an opponent with a losing straight up record, 7-2 in their last nine games when playing on 2 days rest, 16-5 in their last 21 games as betting underdogs, 7-3 in their last 10 Tuesday games, and 7-3 in their last 10 home games.
The Hornets play with the league’s second-fastest pace and they are the league’s highest-scoring team this season at 114.1 points per game scored. Charlotte also has the third-worst scoring defense in the NBA at 14.6 points per game allowed. Meanwhile, the Nets are 12th in the NBA in scoring at 110.8 points per game scored this season. They also have the league’s 11th fastest pace and the 20th ranked scoring defense at 111.8 points per game allowed this season.
Both these teams can score points in a hurry and both don’t play excellent defense too so this has the possibility of turning into a track meet. This game will be played in Charlotte where Kyrie Irving is allowed to play. With Durant back and Irving playing alongside him, the Nets have a potent scoring duo here.
There’s no question about the Hornets putting up the points and with Brooklyn willing to engage them in a shootout where defense won’t be at a premium, I like these teams to hit the OVER.
Prediction: Over 240.5
