Week 12 of NFL action has the New England Patriots heading to the Big Apple to face the New York Jets in a matchup between two team coming off bye weeks and losses in their previous game.
The Patriots were dealt at 24-point defeat by the Tennessee Titans in their last outing while the Jets were beaten by the Buffalo Bills 10-41 in their last game played.
After a slow start which saw the Miami Dolphins take a brief lead in the AFC East, the New England Patriots are back on top of their division after a strong surge. However, the Pats saw their six game win streak end against the Tennessee Titans in their last game. With one week to get over the loss and get back on track, the Patriots have set their eyes on feasting in New York.
The New England offense has picked up and prior to the loss to the Titans, they were averaging 35.5 points per game during their six game winning run. Tom Brady is not the same dominant force that we’ve been used to watching but nearing 42, he’s still having a good season with 2,748 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, 7 interceptions and 65.2% passing.
The New York Jets are 3-7 SU on the season and have lost seven out of their last nine games including their last four. They are a team that not only hasn’t played well but one that looks like they’ve given up on their coach. After losing to the lowly Bills the last time out, the Jets’ season may have plummeted to an all-time low and it doesn’t get any better as they host the Patriots in their next game.
Rookie quarterback Sam Darnold was supposed to change the Jets’ fortunes this season but so far, the first year play caller has struggled in New York with 11 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in nine NFL starts. As a result, the Jets are ranked only 29th in the league in passing yards per game at 192.1 and 27th in passing touchdowns. Darnold is a doubtful starter on Sunday with a foot injury.
The Patriots are 6-1 SU in their last 7 games played and 18-4 SU in their last 22 games on the road. The Jets are 1-4 SU in their past five games played and are 2-4 SU in their last 6 games at home. Head to head, the Patriots are 7-1 SU in their last 8 games against the Jets and are 13-4 SU in their last 17 road games against New York.
Both these teams are coming off bye weeks so both have had the chance to regroup after losing both their respective previous assignments. But if we have to be real, the team that’s probably going to bounce back faster from their previous game is New England who had their six game winning streak ended by Tennessee. On the other hand, the Jets have lost four in a row and seven out of their last nine, have looked bad during this losing spell and have a banged up quarterback in Darnold. As for the Patriots, I’m sure they are ticked off and would want to get one back this week. We’re picking the New England Patriots to beat the New York Jets on 11/15/18.
New England is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games played and 16-6 ATS in their last 22 road games played. New York is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games played and are 2-4 ATS in their last 6 games at home. Head to head, the Jets are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games against the Patriots and are 5-0 ATS in their last five games at home against New England.
Interestingly, the Jets have been good ATS against the Patriots, especially at home. They are also 8-3 ATS in their last 11 gome games as an underdog. But their recent form has been very awful. Not only are they coming off a loss to the Bills- yes the Buffalo Bills, who dropped 41 points on them, the Jets are 0-4 ATS during their current four game losing streak and have not scored more than 20 points during these four games. I just don’t see it happening. Not to a team that last lost to the Buffalo Bills. Prediction: Patriots -10 (-110)
The under is 6-4 in the Patriots’ 10 games played this season and the total has gone under in 7 out of the last 9 road games for them. Meanwhile, the total has gone over in five out of the last 7 games for the Jets and the over is 4-1 in their last five home games. Head to head, the total has gone under in 4 out of their last five meetings, including 4-0 in their last three games.
As stated above, the total has gone under in the last four meetings between New England and the New York Jets and the averaged combined score in those four games was only 39 points. The Jets haven’t scored more than 20 in their last four games and I don’t think they’ll hit 20 in this one either. With the way the Jets have been playing poorly on the offensive end, they are not a good dance partner to go over the total score. Prediction: Under 47.5 -110
