The New York Knicks travel to the Bay Area to take on the two-time defending champions Golden State Warriors on Tuesday January 8, 2019.
The Knicks are coming off a loss to the Portland Trail Blazers in Portland on Monday and will travel to Golden State to face the Warriors in the second of back to back games. The Warriors meanwhile are coming off a red hot shooting display against the Sacramento Kings last Saturday.
The New York Knicks will be making the last stop in a six game trip that has seen them plunge down the team standings. Aside from Friday’s big win over the Los Angeles Lakers at Staples Center, the Knicks have come up short in the other four games of the current trip. New York played and lost in Portland on Monday night and will travel to Oakland to face the Dubs in the second of back to back games.
Tim Hardaway Jr. leads the way for the Knicks with 20.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. Enes Kanter is putting up a double-double season with 14.4 points and a team-high 10.7 rebounds. Meanwhile, Emmanuel Mudiay leads the Knicks with 4.0 assists per game while also scoring 14.3 points per game. Rookie Kevin Knox, recently named Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month, is averaging 12.2 points and 4.3 rebounds.
Heading to Monday’s games, The Knicks ranked 22nd in team scoring at 107.8 points per game. New York is also 29th in assists with their 19.9 dimes per game average and tied for 14th in rebounding at 45.2 boards per contest. In defense, they allow an average of 115.8 points per game which is 4th from the bottom in the team rankings.
The Golden State Warriors are coming off a game where they and the Sacramento Kings set the NBA’s all-time mark with a combined 41 three pointers made on Saturday night in Sacramento. The game also marked the first time in NBA history where opposing teams made at least 20 three pointers each in the same game. Of course, the Dubs also walked away with a narrow 127-123 win that put them at 26-14 on the season and second place in the Western Conference.
Stephen Curry waxed hot against the Kings, making 10 three pointers en route to a game high 41 points to lead the champs. Curry is averaging 29.4 points per game on the season and is making a scorching 5.1 three pointers per game. Kevin Durant is contributing 28.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game for the Dubs while Klay Thompson, for all his shooting struggles this season, is still averaging 21.1 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.
The Warriors are the best passing team in the league at 28.1 assists per game and are 3rd in team scoring at 116.6 points per game. The Dubs are tied for 10th place off the glass with their 46.0 rebounds per game average. However the concern for them this season, as it was against the Kings last Saturday, is their defense as the Warriors rank only 22nd in scoring defense at 112.2 points per game allowed.
The Knicks are 2-8 SU in their last 10 games played and New York is 6-17 SU on the road this season. The Warriors meanwhile are 6-4 SU in their last 10 games played and the Dubs are 15-6 SU at the Oracle Arena this season. Head to head, Golden State has won nine out of the last 10 meetings between these two teams.
The Knicks have lost 14 out of their last 16 games and things really look bad in New York. Until such time New York gets Porzingis back, this team isn’t going to compete against the elite teams in the NBA. The Knicks don’t have consistent offense outside of Tim Hardaway Jr. and against an offensive juggernaut like the Warriors, it’s going to be an offensive mismatch. The Warriors have been solid at home too while the Knicks are just 6-18 on the road this season. Golden State already beat the Knicks 128-100 last October 26th and it’s hard to imagine this one ending differently. We’re picking the Golden State Warriors to beat the New York Knicks on 1/8/19.
The Knicks are 17-20-2 ATS on the season and New York is 11-11-1 ATS on the road this season. Meanwhile, the Warriors are 16-24 ATS in 40 games played so far and Golden State is 8-13 ATS in 21 home games played this season. Head to head, these teams are at an even 5-5 ATS in their last 10 meetings.
The Knicks are 1-5 ATS in their last six games versus the Pacific Division. New York is also 1-5 ATS in their last six games playing on zero-day rest. The Warriors meanwhile have played well against struggling teams, going 8-1 ATS in their last nine games against teams with a winning percentage of below .400. This should be a double digit win for the Warriors but I’m not sure about the +18. I feel that’s too much free points to give so I’ll take it. Prediction: Knicks +18
The total has gone over in 22 out of the 39 games played by New York this season. The over is 15-8 in the Knicks’ 23 road games played so far. The Warriors have seen the over hit in 21 out of the 40 games they’ve played so far during this campaign. The total has gone under in 12 out of 21 home games played by the Dubs.
The Warriors have blown up the opposition at home, especially those teams who have struggled on the road. The Dubs are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games against teams with a road winning percentage of below .400. The Knicks are 6-18 on the road this season and they are looking at another loss here, a blowout at the expense of the Dubs. Prediction: Over 230.5

I just read some crazy news about James Harden with the Houston Rockets. He got 10 3 pointers in two consecutive games. Apparently only one other player has every done that. The only other player to do that is Stephen Curry with the Golden State Warriors. Those are 2 really talented players.
