The Baltimore Ravens travel to the Raymond James Stadium to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday Night Football.
Baltimore is 4-3 SU on the season and is tied with Cincinnati for the lead in the AFC North. The Ravens are led by dual-threat QB Lamar Jackson who is 4th in the NFL with 13 passing TDs this season.
Tampa Bay is 3-4 SU on the campaign and they are also on top of the NFC South Division, tied with the Atlanta Falcons. The Bucs have future Hall-of-Famer Tom Brady playing behind center but Brady has struggled off the gates this year.
The Ravens have alternated wins and losses this season and after seven games, they are 4-3 SU on the campaign. The Ravens are, however, still the number 1 team in the AFC North Division, tied with the Cincinnati Bengals. In their last game, the Ravens defeated the New York Jets 24-9.
Baltimore ranks 6th in the NFL in scoring at 25.9 points per game. They are producing 346.0 yards of total offense per contest. The Ravens are averaging 156.3 rushing yards per game and 189.7 passing yards per outing. Lamar Jackson has passed for 1,397 yards with 13 TDs and 6 interceptions. He also leads the team with 510 rushing yards and two rushing TDs. Tight end Mark Andrews is Baltimore’s top receiver with 39 catches for 455 receiving yards, and 5 TD grabs.
On defense, the team is 21st in scoring defense at 23.0 points per game allowed. They are also giving up 366.4 yards per game which include 105.1 yards on the ground and 261.3 yards through the air. Linebacker Patrick Queen and safety Chuck Clark lead the team with 49 tackles each. Linebacker Justin Houston has 4 sacks to lead the Ravens while Marcus Williams has three interceptions.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers entered the season as one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl. However, the Bucs have struggled as of late, losing four out of their last five games including their last two. In their most recent game, the Bucs scored only 3 points in an 18-point loss to the Carolina Panthers.
Tampa Bay is just 25th overall in scoring at 17.7 points per game this season. The Bucs are 22nd in total offense at 330.6 yards per game. Tampa Bay’s running attack is the worst in the NFL at 64.4 yards per contest. They are also averaging 266.1 passing yards per outing. Tom Brady has thrown for 1,942 yards with 8 TDs and 1 INT. Leonard Fournette has rushed for 362 yards and has one TD. Meanwhile, Mike Evans has caught 33 passes for 454 yards with 3 TD grabs.
The Bucs rank 5th in scoring defense at 17.7 points per game allowed. They are 7th in total defense with 308.3 yards per game conceded, including 118.3 rushing yards and 190.0 passing yards per game. Lavonte David and Devin White have 53 tackles each while Vita Vea has 3.5 sacks to lead the team. Jamel Dean leads the Bucs with 2 interceptions.
The Ravens are 5-2 SU in their last 7 games played against the Buccaneers. Baltimore is also 4-1 SU in their last five games played in Tampa Bay.
Baltimore Ravens SU trends:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers SU trends:
This isn’t where both teams were supposed to be at this stage of the season. The Ravens and Buccaneers were among the preseason favorites but have struggled so far this season.
Baltimore is just 4-3 SU and 2-4-1 ATS to start the year while Tampa Bay is 3-4 SU and 2-5 ATS after seven weeks played. The Ravens’ offense is doing its job at 6th in the NFL in scoring. Lamar Jackson has rushed for over 500 yards already and is doing a decent job with his passing game. Meanwhile, Tom Brady has looked every bit his age this year. Brady has only 8 TD passes in 7 games which is a far cry from what we saw him produce last season.
The Ravens’ issues are mostly with their defense as they are allowing 23.3 points per game this year. That won’t be too much of an issue against a Tampa Bay team that is struggling to score points this season and is coming off a 3-point performance against the Carolina Panthers.
Sure, there is a chance that Brady and the offense bounce back on Thursday. However, the Bucs have struggled badly this year and may not be the team that the oddsmakers predicted during the preseason.
Prediction: Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens are 2-4 ATS in their last 6 games played against the Buccaneers. The Ravens are 3-1 ATS in their last 4 games played in Tampa Bay.
Baltimore Ravens ATS trends:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers ATS trends:
The Ravens have the league’s 5th best running attack behind Lamar Jackson who has rushed for over 500 yards already at this stage of the season. Baltimore also has a decent passing game which should keep the Tampa Bay defense honest throughout the game.
Meanwhile, the Buccaneers have struggled to score TDs this season. Tom Brady has thrown only 8 TDs in 7 games, a far cry from the numbers he put up one season ago. The Bucs have scored more than 21 points just once this season and that was during their 41-31 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Bucs are putting up just 17.7 points per game this season so there won’t be too much pressure on the Ravens’ defense which has allowed 23.3 points per game this year. They have failed to cover the betting spread in each of their last four games played at Raymond James Stadium. The Bucs also have the league’s worst running game at 64.4 yards per contest.
I’ll take my chances with Lamar and the Ravens here.
Prediction: Baltimore Ravens -1.5
The total has gone under in five out of the last six meetings between these two teams. The under is also 2-1 in their last 3 games played in Tampa Bay.
Baltimore Ravens over/under trends:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers over/under trends:
Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay offense are in a funk right now. They scored only 3 points in their last game against the Panthers, in a game where the total was only 24 points. One week before that, they put up only 18 points in a game where the teams combined for 38 points. Two weeks earlier, the Bucs managed only 21 points in a win where the total was 36. Then there was their opening game of the season where they lost 14-12 to the Packers.
Brady has thrown only 8 TDs in 7 games. That’s not going to help the scoring in this game. The Ravens love to run and consume the clock behind Lamar’s legs. Baltimore has scored 23 or fewer points in their last four games played. The under is also 13-5 in the Ravens’ last 18 games played on the road. I don’t see this game hitting the over.
