You know how when you’re hanging out with a couple of buddies watching a football game and you guys get on the discussion of what two teams will be in the Super Bowl? Well, thanks to the online sportsbook 5Dimes, you can actually bet on this now.
As far as their favorite is concerned, they have the New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs as the two teams to square off in Miami in February, and they’re placed at +2000 odds. Coming in second place, we have a tie between the Chicago Bears vs. New England Patriots and the Saints vs. Patriots at +2150. In the No. 4 spot, we have another tie between the Los Angeles Rams vs. Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles vs. Patriots at +2875 odds to round out the top five.
To win Super Bowl 54, the New England Patriots are the favorites at +700 odds, so don’t be surprised to see their name high on the list multiple times. On the top 20 list for this prop bet, the Patriots make a total of eight appearances, which happens to be tied for the most with the New Orleans Saints. New England has made it to the Super Bowl nine times during the Tom Brady/Bill Belichick era, and they’ve won six of those games.
Last season, the Los Angeles Rams would make it to the Super Bowl for the first time since the 2001 campaign, but it wouldn’t go so well for them. They would lose to the New England Patriots in dismal 13-3 fashion, as well as bore everyone to sleep. (Including me. Yes, that actually happened.)
With that being said, the Rams will surely be a force once again this year, led by their head coach Sean McVay who is one of the best young leaders in the league. On top of that, they also have their superstar running back Todd Gurley, an up-and-coming franchise quarterback in Jared Goff and their defense is loaded with talent led by Aaron Donald — Donald would win the 2018 Defensive Player of the Year. In other words, all of the tools and resources are still there for the Los Angeles Rams to get back to the Super Bowl.
If you’re not taking the New England Patriots to win the AFC this season, you’re most likely taking the Kansas City Chiefs. And why not? In 2018, the Chiefs were absolutely incredible on offense with their quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The MVP would put up a season that we haven’t seen in recent history that would lead him to the highest honor in the league, and now Mahomes is in a position where he’s prepared to slaughter defenses for 10+ years.
Mahomes has a load of weapons on offense to operate with, and we already know how potent Kansas City can be. On the defensive side, general manager Brett Veach would substantially improve things with the signings of cornerback Bashaud Breeland and safety Tyrann Mathieu, as well as hiring Steve Spagnuolo as their defensive coordinator.
Good thing too, because the Chiefs defense was a lot worse than you think. They were next to last in the league with a No. 31 ranking, allowing a total of 6,488 yards against them — you can expect those numbers to massively improve this season. With Mahomes doing his thing on the offensive side and the defense re-shaped and ready to go, the Kansas City Chiefs are primed to make another run to the Super Bowl. Judging by value, you have to like their potential Super Bowl matchup with either the Green Bay Packers with +4400 odds or Atlanta Falcons at +6700.
Let’s go over the favorites for what the matchup will be in Super Bowl 54, review the odds released by the top football betting sites and then afterwards I’ll be giving you my betting prediction (and long shot pick) for what I personally think the big game will be in February.
I’m going to give you a piece of advice with this prop bet: Don’t take any option that doesn’t have the New England Patriots in it. With that being said, pass on this matchup. For kicks and giggles though, let’s go over a hypothetical Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and New Orleans Saints: It would be fun, duh. This would be a combination of two massively potent offenses, so you can expect a ton of points to be scored in this one. Just imagine it: Patrick Mahomes vs. Drew Brees. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a 45-42 result at the end.
Now we’re cooking here with the New England Patriots, and we will be for four consecutive options. With this matchup in particular though, I’ve got to pass on it. Don’t get me wrong, the Chicago Bears are going to be a really good football team this year with an improving offense and elite defense, but I don’t trust them enough to get past a New Orleans Saints or Los Angeles Rams. The New England Patriots, for sure, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them go 16-0 this season, but I have my trust issues with the Bears. Plus, there’s minimal value here too.
I’m loving this choice for a betting option, as well as a matchup for entertainment value. Though I don’t think this game would have the amount of potency as a Kansas City Chiefs-New Orleans Saints square off, I would still expect a lot of points to be scored in a battle between Tom Brady and Drew Brees. Though I see this as the first legitimate bet, however, there isn’t too much value with +2150 odds, so my advice is to bet double of what you originally would have to make a solid profit. As far as the entertainment value with this game, we would all win here. Lucky us.
Ladies and gents, here is our second-best legitimate option, and mainly due to two reasons: 1. These teams would meet up last season in the Super Bowl, so the experience is already there. 2. Both teams are actually improved from last year. On top of that, there’s a bit more value here with this pick at +2875 odds. As far as New England is concerned, I don’t see anybody in the AFC beating them. (Even the Kansas City Chiefs) As far as the Rams, I’m just seeing the New Orleans Saints as their biggest hurdle, again. Yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a rematch.
I understand that these two teams would meet up in the Super Bowl a couple of years ago, but the Philadelphia Eagles also had Nick Foles leading the way with Carson Wentz injured. Now that Foles is with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Eagles no longer have the luxury of his services, but instead have to win with just Wentz. With his durability lacking and him constantly being on and off the field, I just can’t trust Philadelphia to get back to the Super Bowl, especially in a stacked NFC competing against the New Orleans Saints, Los Angeles Rams, among others.
Remember the golden rule: Don’t invest in a bet where the New England Patriots don’t appear. With that being said, a matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears would be extraordinarily interesting. With Kansas City, you have Patrick Mahomes and their potent offense, and with Chicago, we have Khalil Mack and their elite lock-down defense. Go ahead and pop the popcorn, because this one would certainly provide a lot of value. But like I said, for betting purposes, pass on this one with the lack of the Patriots. Good value at +3000 though.
I personally wouldn’t be excited for this Super Bowl matchup, and quite honestly, I see this game being a blowout in favor of the Kansas City Chiefs. The Philadelphia Eagles have a good offense, but it won’t be able to match the potency of a Mahomes-led squad, especially with Wentz’ previously-mentioned situation. On top of that, the Chiefs beefed up their defense over the offseason, the Eagles would have to deal with that as well. As far as betting on this game, I’d pass on it even if it weren’t for the New England Patriots. I just don’t trust Philadelphia.
Now I understand what I said earlier about the New England Patriots, but I wouldn’t blame you for taking this option, especially with profitable +3100 odds. Even though I have New England going to the Super Bowl, Kansas City certainly has the potential to pull an upset to put themselves in the big game. As far as the Los Angeles Rams are concerned, they would obviously be in the Super Bowl last season, and have all of the weapons to repeat an appearance. So with that being said, if you wanted to ride with this bet, I wouldn’t blame you.
This is definitely the best long shot pick on the market when it comes to this prop. Both teams would meet up once before in Super Bowl XLIX, and it could certainly happen again. The New England Patriots are, well, the New England Patriots, it’s pretty obvious. As far as the Seattle Seahawks are concerned, however, a lot of pundits have been projecting their decline for awhile and it just doesn’t seem to happen, they keep having winning seasons. As long as Russell Wilson is their quarterback, they’ll always be in a position to make it into the Super Bowl.
