The Super Bowl is the ultimate game for sports betting. While the most learned gamblers will focus on the winner, the spread and the total score, ordinary people like you and me can find countless prop bets that we can cash in on.
Prop bets are proposition bets which are made regarding the occurrence or non-occurrence of an event in a game that does not affect the final outcome of such game. As for our game at hand which is Super Bowl 53 this coming Sunday, February 3rd, you can find bets as easy as coin toss results or which commercial will appear first. There are also those related to the game proper such as which player scores the first touchdown for each team and the likes. Heck, there are even exotic prop bets like how many plays will Tony Romo correctly predict. I mean Super Bowl betting is fun, it’s very much fun.
So we scoured down betmaker Bovada, which has the most prop bets available and imaginable and listed down the best prop bets for Super Bowl 53 for you. These odds are as of 1/29/19:
First Song Performed by Maroon 5
Commercial to Appear First
There are many more prop bets that are related to the game proper like quarterbacks, rushing, receiving, special teams, defense and scoring. We don’t have to list down all of them for you. Just go to the bookmakers’ sites and you’ll find what you want.
Of course you can pick whatever prop bet you want to and put your money on them. Personally, I have a handful which I like and which I’ll most probably put my money on the line for. But here’s my Top 3: 1. Maroon 5’s Opening Song
I’m no music expert here and most certainly not one big fan of Adam Levine but when it comes to Maroon Five, “One More Night” was their first smash hit as it sat nine weeks on top of the Billboard Charts. However, based on recent form, Maroon 5 hasn’t opened a concert with “One More Night” Since 2014. Instead, Setlist.fm says that the bank opened their 2018 concert with “What Lovers Do” 38 times and “Moves Like Jagger” 4 times. In 2017, “Moves Like Jagger” was their most used opener at 18 times in what was mostly an international tour. However, the best value bet for me is “Makes Me Wonder” at +500 because it is the band’s first #1 hit and it’s opening chords makes for a grand entrance. Prediction: Makes Me Wonder +500 but Moves Like Jagger +600 wouldn’t be a bad idea either.
2. Longest Successful Field Goal In The Game
This one’s a 50-50 pick and when you look at the special teams for both squads, no question that the Rams’ kicker and punter tandem of Greg Zuerlein and Johnny Hecker is better and even the best in the NFL today. We’ve seen kickers cost games this season and perhaps the most significant of all was Cody Parkey’s miss that sent the Chicago Bears packing against the Philadelphia Eagles. But when you talk about some of the best field goals this season, let’s not look too far from Zuerlein’s 57 yarder against the New Orleans Saints. No question, Sean McVay trusts Zuerlein enough to let him kick from any distance. Prediction: Los Angeles Rams with the longest field goal in the game
3. Tom Brady Total Pass Attempts
Here’s another 50-50 bet that I really like and perhaps is my favorite among the three. I mean this one was almost a no-brainer for me and when I took a quick look at Tom Brady’s game logs, I found out that my hunch may be correct. The last time Tom Brady threw less than 38 pass attempts in a playoff game was in January 2015. The five time Super Bowl winner has thrown an average of 45.8 pass attempts in the playoffs in the last five seasons. If you want actual numbers, here are Brady’s total pass attempts in his last 14 playoff games, beginning with the most recent ones: 46, 44, 48, 38, 53, 62, 42, 38, 56, 42, 50, 35, 50, & 38. Want more? In Brady’s last five Super Bowl appearances, he’s thrown an average of 49.8 pass attempts per game. 37.5? Maybe that’s because he averaged 36.7 pass attempts per game this season but this is the postseason folks and Playoff Brady is a different animal. Prediction: Tom Brady to Throw over 37.5 pass attempts in Super Bowl 53
