Super Bowl 53 is barely a week away and by now, you must’ve seen the countless bets that can be made for the NFL’s grand finale.
For this particular article, we’ll talk about the bets related to the quarterbacks in this game. As you know, the quarterback position is the most important position in the game of football as he directs the flow of the offense and leads his team’s march to the endzone.
Most bookmakers have their own quarterback prop bets in their respective sites. For the purposes of this discussion, let’s focus our attention on the bookmaker Mybookie.ag which has some up with some of the best quarterback prop bets. Read on.
Before we go to the prop bets, let’s first take a look at how the two starting quarterback for Super Bowl 53 did during the regular season. First, let’s take a look at Tom Brady, the starting quarterback for the New England Patriots.
During the regular season, Brady completed 375-570 passes for a completion rate of 65.8%. He threw for a total of 4,355 passing yards with 29 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Brady is the favorite to win Super Bowl MVP at +125 at Bovada as of January 27, 2019 BD rightfully so. Brady tough has turned it on in the playoffs, throwing for 343 passing yards against the L.A. Chargers in the Divisional round and following it up with 348 passing yards in the AFC title game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Brady is already 41 but he is fine just like wine. After playing somewhat like an old Tom Brady during the regular season, the Tom Brady of old has resurfaced in the first two games of the playoffs. He’s not just a proven winner, he’s probably the GOAT.Brady plays bigger in big games. He was the Super Bowl MVP in four out of the Patriots’ five title wins. During the postseason, Brady has engineered 12 game-winning drives in the postseason, earning him the nickname Captain Comeback.
Facing Brady on the other side of the field is Jared Goff of the Los Angeles Rams. The 24 year old former #1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft completed 364-561 passes for a completion rate of 64.9%. Goff threw for a total of 4,688 passing yards with 32 touchdowns and 12 interceptions during the regular season. In the Divisional round of the playoffs, Goff completed just 53.6% of his passes and threw for a total of 186 passing yards. During the NFC title games against the Saints, he recorded 1 touchdown and 1 interception and threw for a total of 297 passing yards.
Along with the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Dak Prescott and DeShaun Watson, Jared Goff is among the nw blood of quarterbacks waiting to carry the torch when Tom Brady finally call is quits. Although Brady said there is zero chance he is retiring after Super Bowl 53, Goff and the new blood have already made their mark this season. Goff had a hot start to the season, cooled down and then lit it up again in the final weeks of the regular season. He was underwhelming in the divisional round and then rallied his Rams from a 13 point deficit to beat the Saints in their last game. Goff if the 14th youngest quarterback in NFL history to have at least four game-winning drives in a single season so you can see traces of Brady there.
Now that we know our quarterbacks better, let’s take a look at the bet that can be made for both Tom Brady and Jared Goff. Here are the top quarterback prop bets for Super Bowl 53 as taken from MyBookie.ag as of 1/28/19:

Basically, the bets to make are the same for each quarterback, only that they have different numbers. Between the two quarterbacks, I would prefer making my bet or bets on Tom Brady because one, he is the quarterback who’s played in the Super Bowl before and two, he has logged in more playoff games hence we can get an idea of how he plays in such games.
On the other hand, Jared Goff is a tougher cover not only because we have few to none big game comparisons but also because Goff has had a very productive but inconsistent year. Earlier, we talked about him starting the season hot, cooling off afterwards and then getting hot against to close out the regular season. Then of course we saw him with a subpar divisional outing and an impressive conference title game performance.
My first quarterback prop bet would be Tom Brady’s Total Passing Yards. According to our odds, the total is currently set at 311.5 yards and while that may look to high at first glance, you’re talking about arguably the greatest quarterback in the history of the sport. The only drawback with Brady is his age but if the Divisional Round and Conference Championship games are any indication, age is just a number right now. Brady is on a roll and has thrown for a average of 345.5 yards in two playoff games this year. Last season, Brady set a Super Bowl record with 505 passing yards against a Philadelphia secondary that had not given up more than 300 passing yards last season. And yes, don’t forget that Brady has logged in an average of 433 passing yards in his last three Super Bowl appearances. Prediction: Over 311.5
My next quarterback pick would also be for Tom Brady and it’s on Tom Brady Total Interceptions. While we admit Brady is a big-time player, he makes big times plays because he also take big time risks. That said, while he piles up passing yards and touchdowns, Brady isn’t shy about throwing interceptions. Brady has thrown three interceptions in his last three Super Bowl appearances. He threw two against the Chiefs in the Conference title game. During the regular season, Brady also threw a total of 11 interceptions, the first time he’s recorded double-digit interceptions since 2013. Given the expected pressure and gambling tendencies of the Rams’ secondary, I think it’s reasonable to believe that Tom Brady is going to give away at least one pass at Super Bowl 53. Prediction: Over 0.5
On to Jared Goff and I said earlier, I’m not sure what to make of his performance in the big game and I’m not as confident in his passing as I am in Brady’s. So I looked elsewhere and maybe I’ll take his rushing statistics. Interestingly, Goff has rushed double digit yards in each of their two playoff games. He rushed for a total of 108 yards during the regular season or an average of 6.75 per game. I’ve seen him have no problem rushing the football on key third downs so maybe in ba big game like this, he’s going to take some matters in his own hands. The total is set at 8.5 and I think Goff is capable of topping that. Prediction: Over 8.5
