The Washington Wizards travel to The Land to take on the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Quicken Loans Arena on Tuesday in a battle between two Eastern Conference teams.
The Washington Wizards lost John Wall to injury but Bradley Beal has taken over the baton of leadership and has kept the Wizards within striking distance of the playoffs at 3.5 games off 7th place. Washington has won six out of their last 10 games played and enter this game having won three out of their last five games overall.
Bradley Beal has taken over in Wall’s absence, averaging 24.6 points, 5.1 rebounds , 5.0 assists and 1.41 steals per game. Trevor Ariza is having a fine season with 15.2 points and a team best 6.0 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game. Otto Porter is contributing 12.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game for Washington.
The Wizards rank 9th in the NBA in team scoring at 112.8 points per game but their are south in scoring defense at 29th with 115.9 points per game allowed. Washington is ranked 9th in passing at 25.7 assists per game. They also have the third worst rebounding average at 40.8 boards per contest.
At last, the Cleveland Cavaliers finally hit double-digit victories this season. Cleveland claimed that with a 104-101 win over the Chicago Bulls on Sunday. The win snapped Cleveland’s six game losing streak. Despite the win though, the Cavs are still at the bottom of the team standings.
Jordan Clarkson leads Cleveland in scoring with 16.5 points per game. Tristan Thompson is having a double-double season with 11.5 points and 11.1 rebounds per contest Rookie guard Collin Sexton is averaging 14.4 points while Cedi Osman is putting up 12.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
The Cavs have the third lowest scoring average in the league at 102.4 points per game. Cleveland is ranked next to last in passing at 20.2 assists per game. They are also 25th in rebounding at 41.2 boards per contest. The Cavs are giving up 113.3 points per game which is ranked 24th in the entire NBA.
The Wizards are 6-4 SU in their last 10 games played and Washington is 2-10 SU in their last dozen road games played. Cleveland is 2-8 SU in their last 10 games played. The Cavaliers are 5-19 SU in 24 road games played this season. Head to head, the Cavaliers are 7-3 SU in their last 10 meetings.
Surprisingly, these teams split their first two meetings this season with each team winning at their home floor. Cleveland just got their 10th win of the season in their last outing. That win snapped a six-game losing streak and was Cleveland’s second win in their last 20 games. The Wizards meanwhile finish their three game road trip in Cleveland. The Wizards beat Orlando on the first stop of that trip, lost to the Spurs in the second one and they hope to go home on a winning note.
The Wizards have been without John Wall, Dwight Howard and Markieff Morris. Against the Spurs, they were also without Sam Dekker and Ian Mahinmi. But the Wizards still have Bradley Beal, Trevor Ariza and Tomas Satoransky who scored a career high 21 against the Spurs. Washington should still have enough firepower against Clarkson, Osman, Sexton and the rest of the young Cavs to get the win here.
Washington is 6-19 SU on the road this season but the the Cavs are just 5-19 at home so far. Cleveland is coming off a win over Chicago and they have not won back to back games since winning over the Houston Rockets and Philadelphia 76ers last November 24 and 25, 2018. I don’t think they’re winning here either. I’m picking the Washington Wizards to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers on 1/29/19.
